Eric, I used Fiebings leather dye to stain and Tung oil finish.

Nice job LoneHunter!I would have guessed that you used Fiebings, as you have used it in the past on a few of your curly maple handles.For your tung oil finish...how many coats did you use and how long...

Shane, Like you I use probably close to 10 coats of Tung oil (very thin), I wait until it is dry to the touch before the next coat goes on. Usually takes several days.

that is a nice knife. The stain was a good idea. I may have to try that some day. I love to use maple since it is such a common wood where I live, and it is great in terms of strength and density....

I've found that leather dye works better on bows than stain - much easier to get durable, strong colors. Not surprised to see it used so effectively on a pretty knife handle. Wear gloves when you use...
